CFUW Orillia is pleased to announce that 24 Orillia-area women — 22 graduates of local secondary schools and two special scholarship applicants — were granted a total of $32,700 in scholarships in 2023.

Recipients from Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School were Alexandra Vanigasooriyar, Anna Lajoie, Autumn Rose Johnson, Esmee Rosati, Franchi Torchia, Molly Gill, and Zaika Bisson. Orillia Secondary School recipients were Arissa Dixon, Claire Kudar, Madelaine Young and Madison Michell. From Twin Lakes Secondary School, Ashlyn Bourne, Blythe Wieclawek, Chada Wichayasunan, Julia Litvinenko, Kathe Rozon, Katie Ashick, Lauren Irwin, Sophia Adams and Emily Grimaldi were the worthy recipients. Gabriella Ricci was the first to receive a scholarship from ESC-Nouvelle Alliance and Amelia Sharron, a mature student, also received grant funding. Sophia Adams and Madelaine Young received additional scholarships in memory of Bev Long, a longtime member of CFUW Orillia.

“The scholarship program is one way in which CFUW Orillia supports local women in achieving their goals,” says Roline Maconachie, president and chair of CFUW Orillia Education Foundation. “As an organization dedicated to improving the status of women and girls worldwide, we strive to help our local women succeed so they can build a stronger, brighter future.”

CFUW Orillia raises scholarship funds in a variety of ways, primarily through its annual Homes Tour, held every year on the first Sunday in June. In its 50th year, the 2024 tour will be held June 2, so be sure to mark your calendar so you don’t miss out on the special celebrations. Follow @cfwuorilliahomestour or cfuwhomestour.ca to stay up to date on ticket sales and event promotions.

CFUW Orillia is also happy to announce that charitable receipts for donations of $25 or over are now eligible for tax receipts. The newly formed corporation and registered charity, CFUW Orillia Education Foundation, was established and incorporated in 2023 to oversee and solicit donations, assess scholarship applications, and distribute scholarships. We encourage individual, legacy, and memorial donations, and all donations to the foundation go into the scholarship fund.

This year’s 2024 scholarship applications are now available online at cfuworilliaeducationfoundation.ca. Applicants from the Orillia area who are high school or Learning Centre graduates as well as mature students returning to post-secondary education in 2024 are eligible to apply. Special applications may also be considered. The deadline to apply is April 11, 2024. Those received after this deadline will not be considered.
